A place to think out loud, slowly.

My name is Simankan. By day I run technical programs at Microsoft, which mostly means holding a lot of threads and trying not to drop any of them. By evening I write, which is a different way of holding threads, and one I find I need in order to do the first thing well.

The essays here fall roughly into two piles. One is about leverage: careers, money, and what AI does to work once it stops answering questions and starts doing things. The other is about being a person, which turns out to be the harder problem. Both piles get the same treatment: lead with the answer, show the numbers where there are numbers, and make a call.
